Hello, Micheltorena!
Though we may be physically apart, we can still share some of the same songs, stories and ideas on International Heritage Day 2020. Here are 3 options we could all do today or over Spring Break, or whenever you are looking for something extra to do while learning at home! (None of which are mandatory, it’s all just for fun and learning!)
Sing Bomba Estéreo’s “Internacionales” over and over again, learning more and more each time if you don’t know it already!
MAP PRACTICE! Do you know how many countries there are in the world? The United Nations recognizes 195! Learning where the countries are is a lot like learning the letters of the alphabet - it helps you understand so much as you’re learning and reading about the history of the world!
With these links below, you can click on “map” to see where the
countries are, and then hit “play” to practice figuring out where
they all are!
3. Watch and learn from some of our Michel community members’ presentations about their cultures online. Thanks to our wonderful Michel dad Carlos Hernandez, we have footage from last year’s International Heritage Day, and for 2020, we have videos from the people below!
You can watch and think (and also journal, if you’d like): “What did I already
know about this country? What did I learn that was new? If I only had 60 seconds
with someone, what would I teach them about this country as the most important
and interesting information?”
Presentations from 2020:
MADRID, SPAIN with intern Lucía
NORTHERN SPAIN with intern Victor
SOUTHERN SPAIN with intern Blanca
VENEZUELA with Michel dad Diego and his daughter Ceci
OAXACA with Michel mom Alejandra: PowerPoint
ZAPOTECO SONGS with Michel students Danna and Dayana
Presentations from 2019 (Oaxaca! Australia! Santa Fe!)
What do you recognize in the world map below? What do you want to learn more about?
