Since time is all wonky thanks to Covid-19, we're here to remind you that yes, we normally do these during the 3rd week of school. But we totally get that nothing feels normal right now.

We had such a positive response from last week's parent workshop on student motivation and growth mindset, that we are hosting a fun and interactive workshop for the whole family this Friday, May 22, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. We hope all our eagle students can join us and engage in a fun way of learning perseverance and seeing challenges as opportunities for growth. IF YOU COULDN’T MAKE IT: CLICK HERE TO REVIEW THE MATERIAL!

The Annual Micheltorena March-a-Thon is a fundraiser and a celebration of physical fitness. All students will walk or jog a course around the perimeter of the school and will be awarded prizes for participation and distance. We will also hold raffles with great prizes!

We are so grateful for our ongoing arts partnerships here in Los Angeles! Each year our 4th graders partner with the LA Opera to perform on campus - this past year they performed The Prospector (an adaptation of Puccini’s The Girl of the Golden West).

This year will be performing Figaro’s American Adventure, a kid-friendly opera based on The Barber of Seville.

Students are transported to colonial America with Figaro and his band of sneaky barbers and colonial compatriots. (Psst…teachers can sneak in American history content with this opera.) After five weeks, they’re ready to join professional opera singers onstage and perform in front of their community. Watch your students transform: gaining confidence, knowledge and a love of music that will stay with them for life.

Our Micheltorena’s Got Talent Show is coming! Come and see our future stars in dance, music, magic, acting, comedy so much more! You will be entertained for free!

Lets Go Eagles! Lets Go!

Micheltorena parents and staff are going head to head against parents and staff from Ivanhoe, Franklin and King. Put on your school gear and get out and cheer for your MICHELTORENA team!  The games (a coin toss will determine who plays who) are in the morning at Marshall High School and a huge festival/party starts afterwards on the streets bordering the school. This will be a fun day filled with nail biting moments, large cheering squads, crazy Mitchel the Eagle moves,  and lots of food, fun and community! It's a wonderful way to meet families from local schools, brag about our school and show off your Eagle pride. Micheltorena merchandise and spirit items will be on sale. Admission is free!!!! ….Surviving the Holidaze - Do you dread the social obligations, family gatherings and stress of the holiday frenzy?  So many people want to hide away during the jolliest time of year.  In this workshop, parents learn to prioritize their family's values.  We explore the role and importance traditions and rituals play in family life.  Parents learn how to make memories with more connection, joy and relaxation, transforming the potentially stressful time into a festive time of year.

Join our Michel parent Thanna in the Parent Center for her Peaceful Parent Workshop series, which happens the second Wednesday of every month. There are two options: Morning 8:30-10 and evening 6-7:30. Childcare and pizza provided. Spanish Translation available for both sessions. Sobrevivir a la solidaridad: ¿Temes las obligaciones sociales, las reuniones familiares y el estrés del frenesí festivo? Mucha gente quiere esconderse durante la época más alegre del año. En este taller, los padres aprenden a priorizar los valores de su familia. Exploramos el papel y la importancia que juegan las tradiciones y los rituales en la vida familiar. Los padres aprenden a crear recuerdos con más conexión, alegría y relajación, transformando el tiempo potencialmente estresante en una época festiva del año.

Puede acompanar a Thanna, el segundo Miércoles de cada mes en el Centro de Padres para un taller de la serie "Padres Pacíficos". What the Yell?! - Would you like to be heard without yelling?  Do you hear yourself and sometimes wonder - how did you get to this point?  If so, you are not alone.  Pssst…It is really all about Self-Regulation, the hardest part of parenting.  In this workshop, parents learn that to parent peacefully, they must first be peaceful themselves.  They leave with tools to help them manage their own big feelings and an understanding that allows them to begin healing their triggers.  They learn that Self-Care is not only essential, it is also doable without spending money.

Come join us after school at 2:30 pm this Friday afternoon for our first beautification day - bring gloves or spades or other small gardening tools if you have them, and together with the kids we will pick up litter, weed, and get Michel more beautiful than ever! 🌱

….Peaceful Parent 101 - Would you like to feel more relaxed as a parent and make room for more joy and laughter in your life?  Do you feel there must be a better way?  You can and there is!  In Peaceful Parent 101, I walk you through the science behind, and the three big ideas of Peaceful Parenting.  Parents gain a greater understanding of a child's brain development and of the need their child's behavior is showing them, how to increase connection and leave with practical tools to begin using at once.
