Matthew Murillo

¡Saludos! I am so excited to be joining the Micheltorena community. I am Mr. Murillo, and I cannot wait to begin the school year!

Mr. Murillo was born and raised in East Los Angeles, not too far away from Micheltorena St. Elementary. He is extremely excited to be teaching in a community close to home. He is a first generation Mexican-American, and the youngest of three siblings. This is Mr. Murillo’s third year as a teacher, however, he has worked with children of all ages for several years now as a tutor, dance/theatre instructor, and teacher’s assistant. Mr. Murillo attended California State University, Northridge (CSUN) where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and Multiple Subjects teaching credential in 2018. He hopes to achieve his master’s degree very soon.

His favorite part of teaching is when students have “Aha-moments” and helping students reach their goals. Mr. Murillo believes that true learning happens in a safe and caring environment where students can be themselves and collaborate with other peers. In addition, he strongly supports all kinds of learning styles: visual learners, auditory learners, and kinesthetic learners. He loves the performing arts, especially theatre. Mr. Murillo enjoys incorporating theatre into his classroom.

When Mr. Murillo is not teaching, he enjoys spending time with his partner and family, going to Disneyland, attending concerts/musicals/plays, traveling to different places, watching TV, cooking, eating out, and shopping for shoes. Mr. Murillo is excited to learn and build alongside his students this year and the Micheltorena family.
